چکیده
I study tropical geometry, in particular tropical curves, moduli, and determinantal varieties. I have written five papers in tropical geometry: three on tropical curves and their moduli [Cha11a, Cha11b, CMV11], and two on tropical determinantal varieties [CC09, CJR09], joint with D. Cartwright, A. N. Jensen, and E. Rubei. After a brief introduction to tropical geometry, I will propose four main directions for future research and mention some of my main results along the way.

Automatic Composition of Themed Mood Pieces
Musical harmonization of a given melody is a nontrivial problem; slight variations in instrumentation, voicing, texture, and bass rhythm can lead to significant di↵erences in the mood of the resulting piece. This study explores the possibility of automatic musical composition by using machine learning and statistical natural language processing to tailor a piece to a particular mood using an ex...
متن کاملDeveloping Self-adaptive Melody Search Algorithm for Optimal Operation of Multi-reservoir Systems
Operation of multi-reservoir systems is known as complicated and often large-scale optimization problems. The problems, because of broad search space, nonlinear relationships, correlation of several variables, as well as problem uncertainty, are difficult requiring powerful algorithms with specific capabilities to be solved. In the present study a Self-adaptive version of Melody Search algorith...

Background and Aim: Automatic identification and classification of the Iranian traditional music scales (Dastgāh) and melody models (Gusheh) has attracted the attention of the researchers for more than a decade. The current research aims to review conducted researches on this area and consider its different approached and obstacles. Method: The research approach is content analysis and data col...
متن کاملCritique of Research Book (Art)/ Hidden Layout: A Critique of the Book of Gusheh: Iranian Melody Culture, Arvin Sedaghatkish
The book Gusheh: Iranian Melody Culture is the result of thirty years of Arshad Tahmasebi’s life long work, and has undergone a shift in some of the key concepts due to the length of time it took to be written. These changes especially include the great changes in scholarship and music research in recent years. Nonetheless, closer studies show that this book is still very helpful and beneficial...
